KERYGMA FEAST IN BATAAN

EVERY FIRST SATURDAY OF THE MONTH, KERYGMA FEAST WILL BE HELD AT THE BATAAN GOVERNMENT CENTER AT 4PM. SINCE IT STARTED FOUR MONTHS AGO, MANY PEOPLE ARE ALREADY BEING BLESSED BY THE LORD. ONE TEACHER GOT HIS US VISA APPROVED JUST DAYS AFTER HE ATTENDED THE EVENT AND PRAYED FOR HIS VISA. A MISSIONARY NUN SAYS THAT SHE IS ALWAYS HAPPY TO JOIN THE EVENT BECAUSE SHE GETS INSPIRED EVERY TIME. SICKNESSES HEALED, JOBS FOR JOBLESS PEOPLE COME, NEW FRIENDS ARE GAINED, HAPPY FACES AND SMILES, LIVELY LAUGHTERS, AND INSPIRED TEARS ARE ALL OVER THE PLACE DURING EACH FEAST. GOD IS MARVELOUS1

BATAAN’S KERYGMA FEAST – FULFILLING THE DREAM

On July 2, 2010, a dream unfolded before the eyes of more than 200 Bataeños, the dream of having a Kerygma Feast in this side of the country. Most of these attendees would go to Manila to attend a Feast at the Valle Verde Country Club or the big events in ULTRA and at the Araneta Coliseum just to experience the fulfilling buffet of blessings.

The people that God used for this event are the brothers and sisters at the Light of Jesus – Ilaw ng Panginoon, Pilar Chapter. They started as Ilaw ng Kabataan when they first experienced having a personal relationship with Jesus during a 3-day retreat on August 30, 31, and September 1, 1984 at Baptist Camp, Lucanin, Mariveles, Bataan. It was spearheaded by Bro. Archie Inlong from the Ligaya ng Panginoon Community. It all started the walk of faith of these young people, whose name was later changed to Ilaw ng Panginoon, because they’re not getting any younger anymore, hindi na bagay tawaging kabataan. Kidding aside, they were called such because they are growing in numbers ranging from different age groups. On December 11-12, 2002, the leaders’ team attended the retreat by Bro. Bo Sanchez, Deepening the Anchors of Your Spiritual Life in Angels’ Hill Retreat Center, Tagaytay City. God worked His ways through this retreat for the community. This was the time LOJ was starting to affiliate with Catholic Communities from the provinces; a very timely answer to the leaders’ prayers then on what direction should the community take as it was going through a dry time of the spirit and service of the members. On March 2, 2003, Ilaw ng Panginoon Community graduated as Class 100 from the Life in the Spirit Seminar at the Panilao Elementary School, Pilar, Bataan, through the guidance of Bro. Lando Galinato, acting chapter head then, and Bro. Roy Pasimio, elder for mission.

We had our very first Kerygma Feast in Bataan on December 3, 2005 at the People’s Center, City of Balanga, Bataan. It was a well attended event and the preachers who gave awesomely inspiring talks were Bro. Obet Cabrillas, Bro. Jon Escoto, and no less than Bro. Bo Sanchez. Bishop Socrates Villegas celebrated the Holy Mass.

During this time when the Light of Jesus Family is envisioning Feasts to happen at different parts of the world to reach out to more people and let them experience the abundant blessings this gathering provides, LOJ – Ilaw ng Panginoon, Pilar Chapter through God’s grace and faithful providence took the bold step of starting a Kerygma Feast in Pilar, at least once a month for now. It was not easy, but God’s love for us and our love for one another, as well as the heart of service God enkindled in our hearts has made this event possible despite all the hardships and struggles. Nevertheless, the July 2, 2010 Kerygma Feast proved all these pains as nothing compared to the joy and victory of being superblessed at this prayer gathering. God is goodإ

TEACH US TO NUMBER OUR DAYS….

An average life span of a Filipino is 66 years of age. That is how long we are expected to live the lives God has given us. It has been two months now since we are holding a monthly Kerygma Feast in Bataan. To prepare for this event, I was glad to be given the task to lead the Worship Ministry. A lot of blessings, and blessings in disguise were showered on my feet. One of the magnificent blessings is that I was reunited with two old friends from my younger years, Elison and Junjun. We were together as members of the choir of el shaddai, pilar chapter. I was one of the singers, Elison was the lead guitarist AND junjun is the bass guitarist. We were not ‘seriously’ close then, maybe because we were still young. That was when KIsap MATA was still played on the air. You can guess how young we still are today. ;0
When we were preparing to establish a band for the FEAST, I thought of contacting these two to help out and play their respective instruments. During our first practice, we saw how much have we changedإ And how we have not.
I remembered very well how ELison told me how thankful he was that he will be able to play again for the Lord. HE missed it so much, he said. All those years we have not sang at El Shaddai, he has spent his talent and time singing in bars, weddings, and gigs, to help his supportive wife make ends meet. I saw in his eyes how much he has really missed singing for the Lord. I saw how through his musical abilities, we were able to put up the band. He patiently arranged the music and taught the other instrumentalists who are not yet very well-versed in playing their instruments. The usual Eli, he always wanted to play and sing the best he can for the Lord.

One time, a sister encouraged him to play more for the LORD’S service adding that the Lord will give him more gigs that will add to his income. The first monthly feast, he was not able to play because he was operated on his appendix. After that, he continued helping out with the practice and was so really eager to play during the feast. Before the AUGUST 7 feast, an unlikely incident happened. HE Was shot on the bar he was singing and was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital. It was a big shock to all of us. It is not enough to say it was so sad.

Elison was there to help us put up the band but he never actually got to play on the events. During the FUNERAL mass, the deacon who gave the last blessings for him said how Elison will now be playing endlessly in heaven. That’s just what he wants to do anyway. And that sister was right. The Lord gave him more gigs…in heaven.

We will always appreciate the enormous contributions he has made for the Worship MINistry. His musical talent will always be remembered. He will always be an inspiration to us. Eli, play on….

Thinking of him while writing this article, I remembered how he thought the days he played for the Lord were his best days, I asked myself what were the best days of my life. And I remembered the verse above. Teach us Lord to number our days, that we may always live each one for You alone.

A FRIEND IS ONE WHO STICKS LIKE A BROTHER … [An open letter to the core group of LOJ-Pilar]

September 10, 2010
10; 00PM

I always wanted to write you notes of thanks, affirmation, love, caring, or simply just tell you that you crossed my mind at a particular day, just like I used to often do. As far as I can remember, when you were asked to describe me using one adjective, most of you would choose ‘thoughtful’. And indeed, I was. When I was still studying in Manila, even though during weekends I am in Bataan to be with you, I still write you letters, kahit kahapon lang, maghapon naman na tayong magkakasama sa prayer meeting, at minsan, hanggang sa hapunan pa nga. And you write back. When I have some extra allowance, I buy small things like cards, posters, pamusod, anything, just to show you that I thought of you, that I appreciate you and your friendship.

I am already tucked in bed but can’t sleep. I am thinking of you, like I always do. You know I was not that close to my family. I have always assessed why I was not, and somehow I managed to answer why, and how I still wish and try to be close to them. You were and still are my second family. I have been with you since I was 14, and now that I am 18, [20 years ago], we are still together serving the Lord. Awesomeإ And I hope we grow old together [I don’t have someone yet to tell that to, kaya sa ‘yo na lang, hehehe]. You know my hurts, my pains, my dreams, my ‘sumpong’. You know my love story and how it will end up with the flies at the box office should it be made into a movie. You were there when I made huge mistakes and how I managed to get up, and how I still am trying to put things at their proper places. As an old cliché, if you want to know who your true friends are, make a mistake. You were there to fix my daughter’s broken bike, make a pulley so I won’t have to pay for therapy anymore and just do my own therapy to care for my broken humerus. You were there to bathe me because I cannot do it myself because of the cast in my arm. When someone somehow was unfair to me, you were there complaining for me because I was deeply hurt I do not have the energy anymore to complain for myself. You were there so I can have a shoulder to cry on. You sang to me ‘ sa isang ngiti ko lang, limot mo na’ whatever it is I did to upset you. You were there to help me find a job which I would later resign to because I cannot stand my boss. You were there to just make lambing to. You were there to lend me some money when I am so broke. You were there to give me my most loved ice cream flavor. You know how brave I was, and how I oftentimes use that courage in bringing myself to trouble. ;] And through most of my mala-Dawn Zulueta’s acting, you were there. And I guess, most of all, you know how much I love you. MARAMING MARAMING SALAMATإ

Beside those stuff, I am writing you today to tell you that I thank God enormously that He has made you part of my life, and how He has made me part of yours. I cannot imagine how our lives would be if we did not have one another. I believe our lives would never have been better without one another’s name on the cast. As we always said, ‘ONCE AN ILAW, ALWAYS AN ILAWإ’ Sometimes, it gets me to thinking that the line is insufficient just to describe how much we have loved one another as brothers and sisters. Today, maybe, we don’t see each other as often as I wish we could. And it makes me long for the old times. Kaso, mas tahimik na din naman talaga ako ngayon. Nagdalaga na kasi ;] … I suppose I cannot tell you many stories like I used to, I am more of a listener now, I presume. Or sometimes, I just like to think of all the things you say to me. Or maybe, sometimes, I wish you would just ask me how I am, and not just the ministry I handle. Deduce it to say, I guess I just miss you and all the light and happy moments together. Well, people grow, sometimes they grow together, and in some aspects, they grow apart. I deem it doesn’t really matter that much as long as we know deep in our hearts that we will remain special to one another. And we are the elders now; first and foremost, we have services to lovingly do. Should the time comes we will be the spectators, I hope we can have more time then to laugh together like we used to do. But for now, suffice it to say that precisely, this letter is all about you now being a leader. Do not fear that your rewards in heaven will be subtracted should I honor you now. Heaven has a lot of that in store for you, I’m sure. IN SPITE OF ALL THE TRIALS, HARDSHIPS, MISUNDERSTANDINGS, MISCOMMUNICATION, FATIGUE, PROBLEMS, YOU KEPT ON SERVING, UNDERSTANDING AND LOVING JUST THE SAME. DESPITE THAT, WE DEFINITELY HAD LOTS OF SMILES, LAUGHS AND LESSONS DOING OUR TASKS. And let me just tell you that with all the many companies I worked for, and all the different types of people I have met in my life, I have never worked with somebody as effective, creative, talented, committed, dedicated, and as much as loving as you. IT’S THE BIG DIFFERENCE. Press on…

Thank you for the love, service, brotherhood, and friendship…you will always be a special part of me, it’s one of your favorite songs, di ba ;] I LOVE YOUإ

FILLED TO THE MAX!

July 2 Kerygma Feast in Bataan was AN EVENT! More than 2oo hundred people blssed and was filled not only with spiritual blessings, but with new friends and an spiritual family. LOJ Pilar members were awed by how God worked in this event. The lead guitarist was operated (appendectomy) three days before the event and the Worship Ministry Leader got the flu two days before also. Other minor problems occur too. But God is an awesome God working miracles one after another. And indeed, during the event, we were blessed with a very wise priest who gave a vey inspiring yet funny homily, the music ministry played the songs rather well, the preacher (Bro. Pio Espanol) gave a wonderful and albeit timely talk. The audience was not only entertained by his jokes, but was so filled with spiritiual wisdom. Everybody did his thing as if it is his second nature. Well, that's how God's family serves together...

It was really a buffet of blessing!
